I was so excited to bring some of these "desert roses" back from Tunisia a few years ago for friends - so unique, so beautiful....  then a friend rained on my parade and told me that her husband had dug a bunch of them up in the Winnipeg Floodway a number of years back and they had a whole box of them in the house!  Oh well, they're still pretty amazing!

it was cold and blustery as i made my way into the heart of the city, almost expecting to see russian masters sipping coffee on the harsh sidewalks suffering and braving the cold, a day fitting for dostoevsky and tolstoy...

After posting this someone asked me what was up with the feather duster comment....  whew!  I guess no one else notices the heavy covering of dust on that lamp.  Hmm.  Makes me wonder why I bother dusting at all then...  the new caption is, goodbye feather duster...
